Abstract
Japan’s Specified Skilled Worker (SSW) policy was introduced to address labor shortages across multiple industrial sectors facing demographic pressure. This study analyzes the impact of the SSW program on Japan’s industrial sector, focusing on productivity, operational stability, and economic sustainability. A mixed-methods approach was employed, incorporating government statistical data, literature review, and comparative analysis between sectors that employ SSW workers and those that do not. The findings indicate that the SSW policy significantly contributes to maintaining industrial production chains, increasing output, and reducing the workload on domestic labor. However, challenges remain, including cultural adaptation, technical training requirements, and regulatory inconsistencies across administrative bodies. These insights are expected to support policymakers in improving the long-term effectiveness of the SSW program as a strategy to sustain Japan’s industrial sector.
